Letter 7 • 15 October 1983 |
Leningrad October 15, 1983 Dear Hans I received your letter and LPs. Great thanks. I’ve heard Vinny Golia’s ensemble before. And his solo playing proved to be very good too. On Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 two concerts of piano recitals were held in Leningrad Concert Hall. Performed: Igor Bril of Moscow, Alexander Schischkin [Shishkin] of Gorky and Vyatscheslav Ganelin. Ganelin played besides piano on flutes, percussion and little instruments and also on Casio musical computer / synthesizer which he had brought from Germany this spring. 35-minute composition ‘Divisi’ was electronic / acoustic collage sound intensitiy of which could be compared with sounding of any jazz combo with rhythm section. + string ensemble + ac. organ. I learned that German Enja Records released by license of ‘Melodya’ new album of the Ganelin trio ‘Non Troppo’. If it’s possible for you send please some copies of this album to Leningrad (each copy in a separate packaging please). The ‘Autumn Rhythms’ Jazz Festival will be held in Leningrad Nov. 16-20. What’s your impressions of the Jazz Jamboree ’83 and of Poland on the whole? Yours very truly Sergej
