The programme’s nine points extent the number of activities focusing on Mayakovsky to a maximum – Mayakovsky and contemporary art, Mayakovsky and his time, Mayakovsky and his workplaces – without being too specific about single events, just naming a few to make it clear that members are ready to begin action. It also has the right amount of Sovietness – of party-speak clichés – presumably expected to impress or just please those authorised to allot premises.

What is more, the working plan for the first year is an outstanding example of how the concept of a club is connected to the idea of a clubroom: activities require a place not only for members to meet (Several evenings dedicated to “V.V. Maykovsky and his Friends”), but large enough to stage performances, the seriousness of which is stressed by important participants (“Mayakovsky and his time” – a concert with reading. Among the participants is S. Kuryokhin, pianist, laureate of All-union competitions.).

Plans for a Vladimir Mayakovsky memorial room, mirroring the “Lenin room” of official places [1], further underline the imperative need of a of spacious premises. Once there is a Mayakovsky memorial room, there must be some other rooms that can be used for different purposes.

Last but not least, the project for a monthly edition of the “Friends of Mayakovsky” club’s wall newspaper reflects a common Soviet propaganda practice – the placard newspaper produced in factories and institutions. Placard newspapers allow “guided” public discussions of important social or political questions. They constitute a form of popular enlightenment related to the ROSTA windows (1919-1921), to which Vladimir Mayakovsky made significant contributions.

[1] Lenin rooms, equipped with Lenin memorabilia, stand in the tradition of the red corner of pre-revolutionary times. The red corner or icon corner, красный уголок, was a place for worshipping at home. Lenin rooms first appeared in the 1920, and the name “red corner” was transferred to "Lenin corner”. Lenin rooms existed in schools, factories, barracks, and when (E-E) Evgenij Kozlov opened his Leningrad studio Russkoee Polee in 1989, he mocked the tradition with a Lenin room in the bathroom of his studio.
