The diaries reflect what is the central point in E-E's life: art and the creation of art-works. He considers general ideas and philosophical approaches, notes and discusses concepts for compositions, judges his own works and chooses among them for exhibitions. Descriptions of his inward life as well as of his outward life - tragic and pleasant experiences with his family, friends and others - reveal an underlying disquietude about his own existence.
