The following information is from pp 249/250 of the above-mentioned book.

The exhibition was not officially opened, because the Leningrad City Exhibition Committee demanded a number of works to be removed, which would have led to the exclusion of seventeen artists (however, none of them from the "New Artists" group).

During three days, the leaders of the TEII tried to work out an agreement with the Leningrad City Exhibition Committee appealing to party and government institutions, which would have allowed those seventeen artist to particpate at the exhibition. As no compromise could be reached, the artists decided to take down the exhibits as a sign of protest.

The picture below is taken from page 244 and shows part of the "New Artists" exhibits at the Leningrad Palace of the Youth.

The painting belongs to the "(B)LACK ART period and is from late 1985 or early 1986

It might be untitled (there are no documents showing its reverse side).
The technique is mixed media on textile, and its approximate size is 200 x 120 cm.

After the exhibtion at the Leningrad Palace of the Youth, the painting did not return to artist.
it was exhibited in 2013 at The Russian Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Saint-Petersburg during the exhibtion "ASSA. The Last Generation of the Leningrad Avant-garde", where the picture below was taken. After the opening of the exhibition, four artists – Oleg Zaika, (E-E) Evgenij Kozlov, Oleg Maslov, and Inal Savchenkov – reclaimed a total of twenty-five works, including this one, from Sergei Bugaev, from whom the museum had recieved these works. As Sergei Bugaev was unwilling to return their works, these four artists decided to file suit aginst their former associate. more >>
