Asked by Joanna Stingray, E-E Kozlov created her portrait with a picture Stingray selected from the Shades of Yellow performace. The photographs above present the composition's evolution in three steps, starting with a paper printout in an A4 format. Kozlov first provided the figure of Joanna with large yellow wings, applying them with the same yellow ink he had used for his live performance for Shades of Yellow (see previous page). This heavenly attributes make her look as if she was taking off from the ground. He then combined painting and collage techniques – ink, lacquer paint markers, acryllic paint, and different stickers (a dove, gold and silver stars) – and supplied the lower border with a neon green felt ornament, a spring meadow surrounding Stingray's legs that stands in colourful contrast to the red stripes above. The stars and stripes can be seen as a paraphrase of the American flag, while the dotted meadow is reminiscent of the easy-going flower-power appeal of the sixties and seventies, especially that of California, Stingray's home. Following that, Kozlov had the composition printed on canvas, where he further extended one of Stingray's yellow wings and added numerous tiny dots along the edges to soften the transition towards the white border. Dots now also highlight Stingray's black jeans, turning them into elegant thigh boots, as well as the letter "O", part of the word "Love" printed on her jacket.
Since the canvas is about four times larger than the original, this also gave the artist the possibility to change some other small details: thus, he overpainted the dove's red legs and removed part of the golden star fragments form Stingray's fingertips.

| For his portrait of Joanna Stingray, E-E Kozlov drew on his experience gathered from Part 3 his cycle "CENTURY XX", his current large-scale project. For Part 3, he used scans of graphic works on paper from the second part of the cycle and printed them on large canvases, where he added more features more >>. |

| The picture above demonstrates that the portrait's colours and shapes correspond to Kozlov's present stylistic practise: The painting behind Joanna Stingray's portrait shows the lower right part of an overpainted print on canvas from the "Century XX" series –WE THINK FOR OURSELVES (2009/2019/2025). At the bottom, leaning against the wall, are several small works on paper from 2025 displaying dancing angelic figures. |
